This year’s attendance at the Central Washington State Fair topped the 2007 tally by more than 10,000 people, organizers announced Monday.

Total attendance at the 10-day annual event, which ended Sunday, was 304,962, according to a news release from Greg Stewart, fair president and general manager.

That’s 3.5 percent up from last year’s count of 294,411, or about 10,550 people.

Organizers had billed the fair as a “staycation” — an opportunity for local residents to find some fun while staying close to home.

Fairgoers were attracted to a variety of events, including an improved Rainforest Experience that featured more reptiles on display than last year, organizers said. The sea lions and musical performers also drew crowds.

Next year’s fair is set for Sept. 25 through Oct. 4.
