Goal is 5,000 gift-filled shoe boxes for children
Operation Christmas Child's annual collection campaign begins Monday.
Christian Life Center is this year's drop-off point. The goal: 5,000 gift-filled shoe boxes.
People are asked to fill shoe boxes with small gifts -- toys, school supplies, candy, hygiene items -- to be shipped to children in need throughout the world this Christmas.
The project is part of the North Carolina-based Samaritan's Purse, run by Franklin Graham, son of evangelist Billy Graham.
The national collection week runs through Nov. 24.
Last year, more than 8 million shoe boxes full of gifts were shipped to children in need in more than 90 countries.
To prepare a gift box, wrap the box and lid of a standard-size shoe box separately. Label the box for a boy or girl, ages 2-4, 5-9 or 10-14. Fill the box with small gifts. A $7 donation is suggested to help ship each box. Place a check in an envelope on top of the gifts in the box. Fasten a rubber band around the box, then drop it off at the Christian Life Center, 716 N. 40th Ave.
The drop-off schedule is 2 to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 22, noon to 6 p.m. Nov. 23, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 24.
