Tree lighting festival Nov. 28
GRANDVIEW -- The Grandview Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Christmas Tree lighting festival at 6 p.m. Nov. 28 at Stokley Square on Second Avenue.
The event will feature Christmas carols, hot chocolate, cookies and a visit with Santa.

WSU computer workshops coming
GRANDVIEW -- Washington State University will offer free computer workshops to teach growers how to use a new computer software.
The software helps growers make long-range technology decisions involving rootstock, varieties, sprayers and others.
The workshop will be offered in a variety of locations but comes to the Yakima Valley on the following dates:
* 3-5 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Yakima Valley Community College Grandview campus.
* 6-8 p.m. Dec. 18 at the community college's Yakima campus.
Organizers are requesting advance reservations.

Grandview seeks 100th b-day motto
GRANDVIEW -- Grandview community leaders want ideas for a motto for the city's 100th birthday.
Grandview will celebrate its centennial anniversary in 2009. The Grandview Chamber of Commerce is accepting suggestions for a slogan to use on publicity material.
The deadline for submitting ideas is Dec. 5.

Play auditions set for Dec. 1-2
PROSSER -- Valley Theater Company will conduct auditions for a two-act musical, "The Fantasticks," on Dec. 1-2.
Participants should try to attend both nights and come with a prepared song and sheet music. Script readings and dancing will be Dec. 1 with vocal auditions on Dec. 2.
Both tryouts begin at
7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 824 Sixth St.
