The Yakima Police Department and the Yakima County Sheriff's Office are in a fundraising face-off.
Gary McLaren, a retired reserve lieutenant for the sheriff's office, and Tim Bardwell, a Yakima police sergeant, will spend Saturday "freezin' for a reason" on the roof of the Les Schwab tire store at 2002 S. First St.
They're engaged in a good-spirited competition to see which one can raise the most money for Special Olympics.
The sheriff's office, thanks in large part to consistent efforts by McLaren, has been the top law enforcement agency raising money for the Special Olympics in Washington.
Bardwell and other Yakima officers have done their own fundraising.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. At 9:45 a.m., the Yakima Fire Department will hoist the pair to the roof.

The Special Olympics provides sports training and competition for developmentally disabled youths and adults.
