SELAH -- Residents are asked to cut vegetation around fire hydrants before the fire department begins its annual testing next week.
The testing will begin Tuesday and will take place through mid-October.
The vegetation should be cut three feet away from hydrants on private property in the city. This allows the fire department to easily find the hydrants in an emergency, and to paint and test the hydrants in a timely fashion.
During testing, water customers may have rust-colored water. If this occurs, city officials recommend discontinuing use of the inside water and letting water run from an outside source instead. The discolored water should clear quickly.
For more information, call Gary Hanna at 698-7312. For information on water quality, call Selah's public works department at 698-7365.
