Moxee hop grower Leslie Roy, right, inspects the color of one of the 13 entries in the Fresh Hop Ale Festival contest. Entrants must make an ale from unprocessed hops that have not been dried, which preserves the heat-sensitive oils in the hops and adds different dimensions to the ale. Laughing Dog Brewing of Ponderay, Idaho, took top honors, with Snipes Mountain Brewery of Sunnyside placing second and Deschutes Brewery of Bend, Ore., third.
