A 22-year-old Yakima woman is expected to face two counts of hit-and-run and reckless driving charges after police found that she caused two crashes within moments of each other on Sunday morning, authorites said.
The suspect was being treated Sunday at Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center for broken ribs, according to a news release from the Yakima Police Department. The three occupants in the other vehicles -- all Yakima residents -- were not hurt.
No names were released.
Police and fire personnel were called about 10:35 a.m. to simultaneous reports of two-car crashes at Third and Beech streets and Sixth and Beech streets.
The first victim told police he was headed north on Third Street when the suspect's car, which was headed south, turned into his car, spinning it around in the intersection, police said. The suspect was last seen eastbound on Beech, the 29-year-old victim reported.
Three blocks later, the suspect's Chevrolet Malibu ran the stop sign at Sixth Street. The Malibu collided with a Ford Ranger that was headed south on Sixth Street. The Ranger, occupied by a 47-year-old man and a 61-year-old man, spun around, while the Malibu hit a light pole.
Firefighters had to cut the suspect from the car, which was destroyed in the crash. The light pole will have to be replaced.
Police said alcohol was not involved, but they did not release any more information about why the woman was driving recklessly.
