BECOME A TEAM MEMBER

Thank you for your interest in Unleashed, the Yakima Herald-Republic's weekly section written, illustrated and photographed by Yakima Valley teen-agers. If you're selected to be a part of the Unleashed team, you will work with about 35 other teens from around the Valley from May until June.

Before you apply, you need to know what we expect of every Unleashed team member. If you think you can't handle what you read below, don't apply. If you can, we can't wait to check out your application and samples of your work.

Here's what you should know:
This is no homework assignment. It's a job. As part of the yearlong team, you must attend monthly meetings (not just for the pizza!), come up with interesting story ideas, meet deadlines and work with teens from around the Valley.

This isn't a journalism class. We're looking for independent and responsible teens who already have a grasp of writing, taking pictures or creating art. We don't expect pros, but we need fast learners. You will receive limited help from YH-R staff, though we'll always be here to answer questions.

Yes, this is a paid job. But don't expect to buy a Jetta -- only the gas for it. A typical story, photo or art piece will get you about $15.

If selected, you will serve as the eyes and ears of your school, always on the lookout for hot story ideas.

Most importantly, we need teens with something to say! If selected, be prepared to speak your mind and share your ideas!
